40th Anniversary Banquet

On March 2, 2007 we kicked off our 40th Anniversary in style at Millersville University's Bolger Conference Center.  We had a wonderful buffet-style dinner as well as a ceremony honoring Rev. Bill Brown (Longtime Board Member) and Rev. Dr. Robert Sayre (UCM Campus Minister from 1981-1997).  We also heard a short presentation from current students and saw a display of "UCM Through the Years"

COM Last Lecture with
 President McNairy

Christians Open Minded holds two Last Lectures each semester, where an MU faculty member gives an evening lecture as if they know it is the last lecture they will ever give in life.  In honor of the 40th Anniversary of UCM, COM invited Millersville University President Francine McNairy to give a speech at the A-Frame Church in Millersville.  On Tuesday March 6, 2007, we discovered what President McNairy would say if it was the final speech of her life!

Christians Open Minded holds two Last Lectures each semester, where an MU faculty member gives an evening lecture as if they know it is the last lecture they will ever give in life.  In honor of the 40th Anniversary of UCM, COM invited former UCM Campus Minister and History Professor Rev. Dr. Robert Sayre to give a speech in Myers Auditorium of McComsey Hall.  On Tuesday April 3, 2007, we heard the "last words" of Dr. Sayre!

Freshmen Orientation Program:
 Quay Hanna

UCM and Christians Open Minded are presenting a special evening program for incoming freshmen during their orientation "welcome week" at Millersville University.  Quay Hanna, renowned public speaker and motivator, will give his presentation entitled "Revelation of a Redneck," which chronicles a bus trip he took around the country after high school which helped him to see the painful hatred and bigotry he was living.  Freshmen: Join us for this thoughtful program, and get to know more about UCM and meet new friends in the process!

3rd Annual Holiday Spaghetti Dinner

Join United Campus Ministry & Christians Open Minded for a special spaghetti dinner to celebrate the holiday season!  The free meal includes salad, spaghetti with Pastor Darrell's homemade sauce, and dessert, plus dinner music on the piano.  Donations will be accepted for our sponsored Compassion Child, Marvin.  All are welcome - we hope to see you there!

Special Program on World Religions: Buddhism

Join United Campus Ministry & Christians Open Minded as we welcome Osho TJ Shaffer to Millersville University for a presentation on Buddhism.  UCM/COM works to add awareness, understanding, and tolerance of various world religions.  This event is open to the university.

Christians Open Minded holds two Last Lectures each semester, where an MU faculty member gives an evening lecture as if they know it is the last lecture they will ever give in life.  COM has invited Sociology Professor Dr. Carrie Smith to give a speech in Myers Auditorium of McComsey Hall to hear her "last words!"

United Campus Ministry & Christians Open Minded will be embarking upon two spring break mission trips this year!  We will be sending a team to Honduras to provide medical needs and interact with local children.  We will also be sending a team to Jonesville, Virginia to participate in home repairs with Appalachia Service Projects.  Alumni of UCM are invited to participate in either trip! For The Bible Tells Me So Video Documentary

United Campus Ministry & Christians Open Minded, teaming up with MU Allies and Vision of Hope MCC, are bringing the award-winning video documentary "For The Bible Tells Me So" to the campus of Millersville University!  This documentary has been heralded by critics and has even been nominated for the Grand Jury Prize at the 2007 Sundance Film Festival!  "For The Bible Tells Me So" takes an in-depth and honest look at the current conflict of religion and homosexuality in a way that opens eyes and hearts to the inspiring message it shares.  There is no admission and the evening is open to the public.  Light refreshments will be served following the documentary.
